It’s a jungle out there for us newbies
Having tried to negotiate the minefield that is the endless stream of ebooks, latest launches of the ‘Gurus’, and waded through the hundreds of emails that promise to help me ‘become a millionaire’ littering my mailbox all I have to show for my efforts are a couple of well presented programs ranging at between $400 - $2000, and amassed quite an impressive collection of ‘Freebies’ that now decorate my desktop!    I became so disillusioned and frustrated that I decided to start a website in the form of a club to help point people in the right direction, afterall, there must be other people like me out there who would really appreciate some help and advice, or even to form joint ventures by way of a collaboration.

What Exactly Is PLR? (Private Label Rights)

Unless you’re extremely new to internet marketing, you will undoubtedly have come across the term PLR, and if you have read any sale’s pages you will know that this simply means Private Label Rights.

Private Label Rights is basically an original piece of work in the form of an ebook, an article, or a digital product such as a report, a transcript, an MP3 recording, video, etc whereby the author has given their full consent for others to use his/her work for themselves.

If you buy or receive a PLR product this (usually) means that you can then alter or re-edit the information and place your name as the creator of the product, having said that I strongly advise you to read the accompanying ‘Resell Licence’ very carefully for any special clauses, or stipulations.

Not All PLR Is Created Equally

As I mentioned above, check the exact rights of the product, particularly before purchasing, to make sure you understand all the terms and conditions. 

Some may be plain PLR which means you have to respect and adhere to the wishes of the author, ie there are still terms and conditions attached to their body of work that must be abided by and you will usually find this tucked away within a “Rights” word document, there you will find the stipulations on what you can and cannot do with the content. In certain instances you may not be able to give it away for free or sell them on auction sites.    Some PLR state that you may not be able to sell below a certain price so as to hold the products value.

Unrestricted PLR

With Unrestricted PLR on the other hand, you have the keys to the bank vault. These usually come with no terms or conditions which means you can do pretty much anything you want. You can sell it for whatever price you wish, on auction sites and in the exact same form as which you purchased it in, you also have the right to sell the source code, which is the raw document format the PLR came in so that others can alter and sell the product on as their own unique content. If you want to sky rocket your earnings, it pays to alter the content and to be different. Give  people a reason to buy from you rather than from the hoard others selling the same thing at a $1 per piece.

Why would the creator sell/give away PLR rights to their piece of work?

The creator can usually sell/giveaway their work on the front end and, providing it is a quality product, the people purchasing it will come back for more. There is no shortage of people willing to pay for quality PLR as it’s a convenient way to get products out there faster without having to do all the research and leg work of creating the product from start to finish themselves.

So as you can see, there is no way to put you in the product creation driving seat quicker than with PLR.

Have you decided to start your own online business but don’t know where to start? Well be prepared for a lot of research and planning…..Firstly you will need to decide how much money you are prepared to invest, but don’t worry that it’s not going to cost a small fortune, as with a bit of time and effort on your part, you could start your online business for less than $100! You could start off by performing a google search on the particular field you are interested in (ie search ‘health & fitness’ if you are considering this as your line of business) to check if there’s sufficient demand for your product, and to see the competition (so you are fully aware of how many other sites you’ll be up against). Check out the competition to see what aspects of their websites you like/dislike, as you may later want to consider incorporating the features you particularly like in your own website. If, on the other hand, you are considering affiliate marketing, or ebooks/programs for resell purposes, do a search to see what is on offer, and pick up any freebies along the way (as these can be used later as your giveaways).

Be very careful not to pay for anything before checking it out - this can be done in a google search by simply adding the word ’scam’ after the product, or author’s name, and see what comes up. Take particular interest in any comments on forums/messageboards. Lastly make sure:

• You know exactly what you are buying
• That there is a contact number/email address - contact the seller with any questions to see how long it takes them to get back to you
• That the product operates a money back guarantee - Although this should not be relied upon

Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is a good starting point for beginners, as you are promoting someone else’s product/service, and earn a commission for every person who purchases through your link. Although it is not strictly necessary to have your own website as an ‘Affiliate’, it is a lot harder without one.  There are a number of ways you can promote your website, in blogs, forums etc, whereas promoting an affiliate link is often frowned upon, particularly in forums, or on message boards, if you are a recent member/contributer!  

We will cover this subject in more depth later, as I’m hoping this will develop into an informal inclusive community area, with proactive contributors willing to pass on tips, advice, and generally helping each other on the road to success.
